Client Spotlight: Rapidly Expanding Ronald McDonald House at Stanford Opens New Facility for Families
S&C client Ronald McDonald House at Stanford creates a home-away-from-home and supportive community for families of children with life-threatening illnesses receiving specialized treatment at local hospitals. These children and families are experiencing the most stressful possible conditions, and the House provides a safe, beautiful, caring environment with support from professionals and other families. As soon as you step into the building you understand the magic it holds.
Founded in 1979, Palo Alto was one of the original locations in the national Ronald McDonald House system, and it has been a race to keep up with demand ever since. Expansions in 1992 and again in 2003 eventually produced a spacious 47 bed state-of-the-art facility. That house remained full each and every night for the next 13 years.
In May of 2016, Ronald McDonald House at Stanford completed its most ambitious expansion to date, with the ribbon cutting of a new, beautiful space. This facility is today providing overnight accommodations for an additional 67 families travelling outside their communities to access medical treatment for critically ill children at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford.
Next year, at the conclusion of current House renovations, the facility will be among the largest Ronald McDonald Houses in the world, providing rooms to 123 families and a continuum of care designed to support the emerging trend of Family Centered Care in the treatment of pediatric patients.
It is at this intensely exciting time that Ronald McDonald House at Stanford is expanding its development department with two new positions. The Development Manager – Annual Giving and Foundation Relations and Communications Officer will each play an important part in securing RMHS’ continued growth and expansion over the coming years.
